TripAdvisor takes over Dutch restaurant review site

January 8, 2015

toppers-2015American travel platform TripAdvisor is taking over Dutch websites Iens.nl and Seatme.nl for an undisclosed amount of money, the Telegraaf says on Thursday.

Iens.nl is the biggest restaurant review and reservation site in the Netherlands with an estimated 20 million visitors a year and a network of more than 20,000 restaurants. Seatme.nl offers reservations at some 1,500 restaurants.

The two sites, which merged in 2012, will be integrated into the TripAdvisor network via its Lafourchette subsidiary. Iens.nl will remain a separate label while Seatme.nl will become part of the TripAdvisor service, the Financieele Dagblad says.

According to the Telegraaf, the takeover will help TripAdvisor in its online battle with Amsterdam-based Booking.com by giving it a new entry into the Dutch market.
