Woman shot dead in Amstelveen is latest gangland killing victim

December 9, 2014

Cordon tape from policeThe woman shot dead in Amstelveen on Monday evening is thought to be the latest victim in the ongoing gangland war in Amsterdam, the Telegraaf says on Tuesday.

The woman is thought to be the girlfriend of a member of a drugs gang run by Gwenette Martha. Martha was shot dead on the Amsterdamseweg in Amstelveen in May. He was reportedly hit by 80 bullets.

The Telegraaf says this is the first time a woman has been murdered because of her relationship with a gang member. The identity of her boyfriend, who is known to be on a death list, is being kept secret, but according to the Telegraaf he goes by the name of Ziggy.

The woman was hit by several shots at around 19.30. Police later found a burned-out car around one kilometre away.

There has been a string of killings, often using automatic weapons, in Amsterdam and its surroundings in recent months.
