az - ajaxA 4-0 thrashing by Vitesse of Arnhem at home put Amsterdam football club Ajax out of the KNVB Cup on Thursday evening.

Ajax coach Frank de Boer told Fox TV after the match his team had had an off day.

‘There were eight or nine players who should have been substituted,’ he said. ‘Vitesse deserved to win. There was not one second that we were part of the game… we gave the goals away and we created no chances.’

The quarter finals take place at the end of January between Roda JC or PSV against Excelsior, FC Groningen against Vitesse, SC Cambur against cup holders PEC Zwolle and FC Twente against AZ of Alkmaar.
