Dutch tv presentor Humberto Tan shocked by angry One Direction fans insults
Television presenter Humberto Tan says in Monday’s Telegraaf that he was shocked by the over-the-top reactions of some fans of boy band One Direction who did not win tickets to watch a recording of his show featuring the five English lads.
In total, 300,000 fans applied for the 200 places and those who were disappointed vented their fury on Tan in a wave of social media insults, the Telegraaf says.
‘It was unbelievable,’ Tan said. ‘I had hundreds of messages from people who swore at me or wished me all sorts of diseases. I don’t understand it, but what I really don’t understand is that there was not one message from a parent saying “behave yourself”.’
The teenage fans were warned they would be removed from the studio if they screamed during the interview, and this appeared to work, the paper says.
The boys, put together via a British television talent show, performed three numbers – Night changes, Steal my girl and Story of my life. The last song was performed three times because of technical problems, the Telegraaf says.
RTL Late Night featuring One Direction will be broadcast on Monday night on RTL4.
