Ziggo to be Ajax’ new main sponsor
Cable company Ziggo is to be the new main sponsor of Amsterdam football club Ajax from next January.
The company has agreed to pay at least €8m a year with a potential additional €2m based on the club’s performances.
Current main sponsor Aegon pays between €10m and €12m a year. The insurance company was due to end its sponsorship after last season but extended it for six months to allow Ajax enough time to find a replacement.
Aegon signed a seven-year contract with Ajax in 2007, with an option to end the agreement after five years.
Ziggo and competitor UPC are in the process of merging into a single company and hope the deal will boost their brand awareness.
