More traffic jams in August
There was an increase in the number of traffic jams on the Dutch roads between May and the end of August, ending months of decline, transport minister Melanie Schultz has told parliament.
The weather and localised increases in traffic are to blame for the 2.3% increase, the minister said. The worst jams were on the A20 between Hoek van Holland and Gouda, while the A16 from Breda to Rotterdam was a close second.
The transport ministry has begun informing drivers about jams and alternative routes using motorway signs in an effort to cut journey times.
