Trainer arrested at princesses’ hockey club for filming older girls

Wassenaar hockey club HGC has suspended a 45-year-old youth trainer who secretly filmed girls in a changing room for several years.

King Willem-Alexander’s three daughters Amalia, Alexia and Ariadne are members of HGC and also live in the wealthy town near The Hague

The public prosecution department said on Thursday the man, who was arrested last month, filmed both HGC members and visiting teams using a static camera. According to one report, the camera was hidden in a locker.

Police seized hundreds of images, mainly of girls aged 16 to 18, but a few of younger girls. ‘The princesses are not on the pictures and were not in vision. ‘They were too young,’ a department spokesman told the Telegraaf.

Pornography

Police also found child pornography on his computer, but this had not been made by the man himself and there was no connection to the hockey club, the department said.

The man, identified as Luigi C, appeared in court on August 28 and has been remanded in custody for two weeks. As well as coaching hockey teams, he also worked as a sports reporter for several local broadcasters.

The case came to light after videos featuring hockey players came into police hands, the Telegraaf says. According to one report, C himself was in some of the images when he went to check the camera.

The images have been dated to the 2006-2011 period but police are trying to determine if some are from later dates. There is no evidence yet the images have been distributed to others, local broadcaster Omroep West says.

The hockey club told the Telegraaf the man had worked as a volunteer at the club for years, to everyone’s satisfaction. An information evening for parents is being arranged.
