Seven Oranje players move clubs after World Cup, sale totals €63m
Seven players who turned out for the Dutch national football team at the World Cup in Brazil have moved to new clubs on the back of their success, the Volkskrant says on Monday.
In total, their sale in the wake of Oranje’s surprise World Cup third place, has raised €63.5m, the Volkskrant says. The transfer market ends at midnight tonight.
Daley Blind was the most expensive Oranje player, leaving Ajax for Manchester United for €17.5m. Next on the list is Leroy Fer, heading from Norwich City to Queens Park Rangers.
Meanwhile, Rotterdam club Feyenoord confirmed on Tuesday that it has signed Ajax keeper Kenneth Vermeer on a four-year contract for around €1m.
Karim El Ahadi is also returning to Feyenoord after three years with Aston Villa. ‘I always said I wanted to come back to Feyenoord. Now the time is right,’ he told the club’s website.
Feyenoord’s management has been under fire for failing to keep the squad up to strength following a string of sales.
