The Council of State is highly critical of junior economic affairs minister Eric Wiebes’ plan to bring in a new registration system for the self-employed.
According to the government’s highest advisory body, it is not at all clear what problem will be solved by changing the VAR certification system all self-employed workers are obliged to apply for from the tax authorities.
Wiebes says he wants a system that would be effective against ‘fake’ self-employment. However, the Council of State said on Tuesday the problem is very small and that government intervention would not be justified.
