Four Dutch clubs in European football action

Four Dutch football clubs are in European action on Thursday night as the final qualifying rounds for the Europa League take place.

KNVB Cup winner PEC Zwolle makes its European debut against Sparta of Prague at home this evening.

FC Twente, possibly with new signing Hakim Ziyech in the line-up, take on Qarabag in Baku, Azerbaijan. PSV Eindhoven meet Shakhtyor Salihorsk from Belarus at home and Rotterdam’s Feyenoord play Ukraine’s Zorya Luhansk.

Unrest

That match will be played in Kiev because of unrest in the region. The Rotterdammers were eliminated from the Champions League preliminary rounds earlier this summer.

The return legs will be played next week. The winners will take part in the group phase of the Europa League.

Dutch league champion Ajax automatically qualifies for the group stage of the Champions League. That competition kicks off in mid September.
