Van den Ende’s Rocky to close on Broadway as audiences shrink
Dutch theatre impresario Joop van den Ende’s musical version of Rocky has flopped on Broadway and is to close in August because of declining audiences.
The show, supported by the star of the film Sylvester Stallone, is closing after 216 performances, Broadway World reports. By contrast, a German version of the show in Hamburg is drawing big crowds.
The Volkskrant points out that Rocky is not Van den Ende’s first Broadway flop. The successful Dutch musical Cyrano did not transfer to Broadway well either, nor did a theatre version of Big Fish.
