Report emphasises Dutch-US economic and population links
The economic links between the Netherlands and the US improved in 2012 with cross border trade growing 10% to almost $90bn, according to a report by the Dutch embassy in Washington.
The Economic Ties report shows that Dutch companies increased their direct investment in the American economy to $275bn in 2012, up $35bn from the previous year. In the same period, American companies increased their investment in the Netherlands to $645bn, an increase of $50bn.
Texas leads the way in terms of exports to the Netherlands, followed by California. At the same time, Dutch companies have created the most jobs in Texas (94,700), followed by California.
‘The economic relationship between the Netherlands and the US, which marks its 400-year anniversary this autumn, supported 685,000 American jobs in 2012,’ the report says.
The report also shows more than 4.6 million Americans have Dutch ancestors, with the largest populations of Dutch-Americans living in Michigan, California and New York.
