A convicted paedophile is planning to go to court after Amersfoort’s mayor revealed his address to locals on Saturday.

This weekend it emerged Sytze van der V, who has three convictions for abusing young boys, was living above a daycare centre in the city. On Sunday afternoon around 100 people staged a demonstration calling for his removal.

He wants the court to say whether the mayor was right or wrong to go public with his whereabouts and to pay him damages.

Not moving

Van der V told broadcaster RTV Utrecht demonstrating against his presence is pointless. ‘I am not moving. It is not my problem,’ he said.

He has also told the NRC newspaper that he is furious at the council trying to persuade him to move to a different flat. Van der V has lived in a complex for older people above the daycare centre since May.

He told RTV Utrecht he was unaware the flat was above a creche and that the fact is irrelevant. ‘I am not Robert M,’ he said, referring to the Amsterdam daycare abuser who molested dozens of very young children.
