Oranje wins World Cup Group B with 2-0 victory over Chile

A 2-0 win over Chile put the Netherlands into the knock-out stage of the World Cup in Brazil as leaders of Group B.

The Dutch goals came from substitutes Leroy Fer well into the second half and from Memphis Depay in the dying stages of the game.

The Netherlands will play the team which comes second in Group A in the round of 16. That will be decided later tonight but could be Brazil, Mexico or Croatia.

After the match, Wesley Sneijder said Oranje is exactly where they wanted to be, at the top of Group B. ‘At a certain point our opponent does not know what we are up to and we can take advantage of that,’ he said. ‘However, our possession has to be improved.’

Louis van Gaal told Nos television after the match: ‘They were world goals. What is so important if you play a team like Chile, we only gave away one chance. The win is more than deserved.’
