Dutch carjacking pair to be extradited from Germany

A Dutch couple arrested in Germany after a carjacking and shooting in Enschede will be extradited to the Netherlands, a German court said on Wednesday.

Antonio Marcus van der Ploeg (25) and Enise Merve Bercan (19), described by police as ‘highly dangerous’, went on the run following a string of violent incidents in February. They were arrested in the German town of Schwerte.

They have been held in custody ever since awaiting a verdict on the Dutch request for extradition.

The Dutch public prosecution department suspects them of a carjacking and a shooting in Enschede, the kidnapping of a woman in Meppel and a robbery at a house in Brabant.

No date has yet been set for their move from Germany to the Netherlands.
