Police are on the alert for wildcat action pledged by angry truckers on Friday, who have called for a disruptive campaign against government policy.

The national transport sector association TLN has distanced itself from the campaign, saying it will lead to unnecessary delays.

A group calling itself the Landelijke Demonstratie 2013 platform, has listed 30 places where demonstrations may take place, including the Dam in central Amsterdam.

They are also planning go slow drives on motorways and to blockade the Botlek bridge tunnel in Rotterdam.

‘We’v had enough,’ René Markink, one of the initiators, told Radio 1. ‘I’m angry because the government sends everything to Brussels but we could use [the money] here. I’ve just lost my job. I am poor. Poverty is mounting in the Netherlands.’

Police told the broadcaster they would intervene if the action becomes disruptive.
