Knee injury puts Kevin Strootman out of Oranje for the World Cup
AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman will not play for the Netherlands during this summer’s World Cup in Brazil after tearing a ligament in his left knee.
The extent of the injury, sustained during Roma’s match against Napoli on Sunday, became apparent during a scan on Monday.
Strootman, 24, has been a first team fixture under Louis van Gaal. His recovery will take six to nine months, ruling him out of the Oranje squad for Brazil.
The Netherlands is in Group B alongside Spain, Australia and Chile.
