Silver and bronze for Oranje in the women’s speed skating 1,000m

The Dutch continued to dominate the long-track speed skating at the Sochi Winter Olympics on Thursday with Ireen Wüst and Margot Boer taking silver and bronze in the women’s 1,000m.

The race was won by China’s Zhang Hong in a time of 1.14.02.

Thursday’s wins mean the Dutch speed skaters have now won 12 out of 18 speed skating medals at the games so far. The men have won eight, the women four.

Wüst previously took gold in the 3,000m and Boer bronze in the 500m.

There is no long-track speed skating on Friday. On Saturday, gold medal winner Stefan Groothuis is in action again in the men’s 1,500m. Next Tuesday, the 10,000m takes place and includes Sven Kramer in the line up.

Wüst will be in action in the 1,500m on Sunday and the 5,000m next Wednesday.
