Schiphol airport loses out to Istanbul

Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport lost its number four position in the European ranking to Istanbul in December.

The fast-growing Turkish airport passed Schiphol in passenger traffic with 3.9 million passengers against 3.7 million.

Schiphol did keep its fourth position over the whole of 2013 with a 3% increase in passenger traffic to 52.5 million.

Istanbul showed a 13% increase to 51.1 million over the year.

London Heathrow and Paris Chales de Gaulle airports retain their number one and two positions.
