Viktor & Rolf are voted dumb fur wearers of the year

Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf have been voted Dom Bontjes (dumb fur wearers) of the year in an annual poll by anti-fur campaigners.

The couple won 40% of the 17,000 votes cast in the contest, organised by animal rights group Bont voor Dieren.

Viktor & Rolf use fox, mink and raccoon in their creations. The fur comes mainly from Scandinavia where animals are bred purely for their skins and are electrocuted anally, the organisation said.

Last year’s winner was queen Máxima. ‘We’ve never seen her in fur since then, so I think it does have an effect,’ organisation director Nicole van Gemert is quoted as saying by Nos television.

Dom Bontje is a word play on the phrase domme blondje, or dumb blonde.
