Three artists chosen to make official portraits of the new Dutch king

Three artists have been chosen to make new official portraits of king Willem-Alexander: Femmy Otten, Iris van Dongen and photographer Rineke Dijkstra.

The three were selected after submitting sketches of their proposals to the Mondriaan Fonds and a jury of art experts made the final choice. In total, 12 artists were invited to submit their ideas.

The official portraits can be ordered by ministeries and local government to hang in their offices. The finished works are likely to be presented in the autumn.

All 12 proposals are now on show at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam
