Psychiatric clinic patient arrested for Rotterdam mayor threat

A 32-year-old man suspected of threatening Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb made the threats from a psychiatric clinic where he is being held under a court order, the NRC reported on Wednesday evening.

The threats were traced to the clinic in Assen, where the man also comes from. Assen is in the north east of the Netherlands, some 220 km from Rotterdam. The threats led to security at Aboutaleb’s home being beefed up.

The man was arrested at the clinic, the NRC said. It is unclear why he made the threats.
