Boy, 14, dies after shooting himself with rebuilt alarm gun

A 14-year-old boy from Amsterdam has accidently killed himself with an alarm pistol which had been rebuilt to fire bullets, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.

The boy, Siddharta Mahes, was found seriously injured by his mother in his bedroom a week ago but died of his injuries. The incident has only just been made public.

Police described the death as a ‘fatal accident’ and said there are no indications the boy had wanted to take his own life.

‘He was very interested in weapons and had rebuilt a sort of alarm gun so it could shoot bullets,’ the Telegraaf quotes a police officer as saying. ‘We are interested in where he bought the gun and are checking his computer.’

It is a criminal offence to own a rebuilt alarm gun in the Netherlands.
