A bend in a road in Noord-Brabant province is the most dangerous place in the country, the Volkskrant reports on Thursday.

In total 16 people have been killed in four car accidents on the bend on the road between Boekel and Veghel over the past five years, the paper says.

The paper bases its claims on research into the 4,405 fatal traffic accidents in the Netherlands between 2006 and 2012.

The local Veghel council only took steps to warn motorists of the danger after the last accident, in which four people died. Councils have also been slow to act in other traffic accident blackspots, the paper says.
