Autumn storm set to batter the Netherlands, winds of up to 120 kph
The Dutch coastline is set to be battered by strong winds of up to 80 kph on Sunday afternoon and evening, the KNMI weather bureau said.
On Monday the south-westerly winds will spread to the rest of the country, reaching up to 120 kph or even stronger in the north west of the country. The KNMI has issued a code yellow weather warning for the next 48 hours.
Weather bureau weeronline.nl says Monday’s storm could lead to considerable damage to trees and buildings.
Trees are particularly vulnerable because they are still largely in leaf, so they catch the wind more easily. The strong winds will be accompanied by heavy showers at times.
Motoring organisation ANWB says it expects Monday’s rush hour to be difficult because of the stormy weather.
