Photographer Erwin Olaf has been picked to design the new euro coin featuring king Willem-Alexander, the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday, quoting sources.
The new king will replace his mother Beatrix on the coins next January. The finance ministry told the Volkskrant a choice of designer had been made but that it is up to junior minister Frans Weekers to decide when to make it public.
Olaf is responsible for a 2011 portrait of queen Máxima and both she and the king are known to be fans of his work, the paper says.
The photographer and gay rights campaigner said on a television chat show last year Willem-Alexander should bleach his teeth and lose a few kilos.
