Mali kidnap victim included in new hostage video

A video of the Dutch national kidnapped two years ago in Mali was released on Tuesday by the French foreign affairs ministry.

Sjaak Rijke, 53, was take by force from a restaurant in Timbuktu in November 2011 during a ‘dream trip’ across the Sahara. A South African and a Swede were also kidnapped.

Rijke is being held with four Frenchmen who were kidnapped in 2010.

The video, which shows Rijke and the other men in kaftans and with beards, was confirmed by the French ministry, according to Nos tv. It was sent to the Malinese press agency ANI on the anniversary of the capture of the Frenchmen.

In the video, the men say they are in good health but under the constant threat of death. They ask their respective governments to do everything to ensure their release.

The Dutch foreign affairs ministry refused to confirm the existence of the video, says Nos tv.
