Three Eredivise reserve teams to play in Jupiler league next season
The reserve teams of Ajax, FC Twente and PSV will play in the Jupiler first division next season, the KNVB has agreed.
The teams must be made up of 16 contracted players under the age of 23. A maximum of three field players and one keeper may be older than that.
The KNVB has also introduced a promotion relegation system for the first division, which means top-ranked amateur clubs will be able to move up to the professional league.
The new situation is a breakthrough, Bert van Oostveen, head of the KNVB’s professional football arm, told news agency ANP.
The change means the first division competition will consist of 20 teams next year. SC Veendam and AGOVV went bankrupt during this season.
