Thirteen projects compete to be new Amsterdam technology institute

A competition launched by Amsterdam city council for ideas to develop a new institute of technology in the capital generated 13 serious entries, the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday.

A number of multinationals and prestigious organisations, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, expressed an interest in the project when it was launched but it is not clear which ones actually took part.

On June 17, the council will announce which five schemes will go into development before a final choice is made in the autumn. Amsterdam hopes that a new top-level institute will boost the city’s economic growth and create jobs.
