A total 2,333 Dutch nationals are currently being held in foreign jails, down 10% on a year ago, foreign affairs minister Frans Timmermans said on Tuesday evening.

A majority are serving sentences in other European countries, mainly Germany, Spain, France and Britain. Six out of 10 are in jail for drugs offences.
