Utrecht a step nearer to European football
FC Utrecht beat Twente 2-0 on Thursday night in the first leg of their battle for a place in the Europa League preliminary rounds.
The second leg takes place on Sunday at home, but Utrecht will be without captain Nana Asare, who was given a second yellow card in last night’s match.
Meanwhile, Deventer club Go Ahead Eagles are a step nearer moving up to the premier division after beating Volendam 3-0 in front of a home crowd. If they beat Volendam again on Sunday, the club will play highest level football for the first time since 1996.
Sparta and Roda JC, also battling it out for an Eeredivisie place, drew 0-0. Roda JC are fighting relegation.
