BAM posts loss, expects improvement in second half

Construction company BAM on Thursday posted a 4% fall in turnover in the first quarter to €1.4bn, citing the winter weather as the primary reason.

Pre-tax profit rose slightly to €5.2m.

CEO Nico De Vries said the situation in the Dutch construction sector remains difficult with little sign of improvement.

De Vries said he expects an improvement in results over the rest of 2013, with more orders coming in in the UK, BAM’s second most important market after the Netherlands.

The order book remains unchanged at the end of the first quarter at €10.7bn.
