Spring feelings and new king help consumer confidence rise, slightly

Consumers are slightly less pessimistic this month than they were in March, the national statistics office CBS said on Friday.

People have slightly more confidence in both the economy and their own financial situation and are more likely to make major purchases, such as a washing machine or television, the CBS said.

The CBS says consumer confidence is not only determined by having a job. The improvement in the weather and the pending investiture of the new king also have a positive effect on people’s feelings of well-being, Nos television reported.

Economic affairs minister Henk Kamp said it is still too soon to draw any conclusions from the figures. But social affairs minister Lodewijk Asscher said they are a good sign, especially considering exports are rising, RTL news reported.
