Nearly 82,000 households are in arrears for 120 days or more on their mortgage, an increase of 25% on a year ago, according to credit registration agency BKR.
But despite the sharp increase, only 1.6% of home owners have trouble paying their mortgage and problems with tax debts, health insurance and energy bills are much more serious, the BKR said.
Nevertheless, the problem is likely to become more acute as unemployment increases, a spokesman told RTL Z.
