Man shot dead by police in Rotterdam

A 29-year-old man was shot dead by police in Rotterdam on Sunday evening after apparently threatening people with a knife and an axe.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear but Nos television said police were called to the Charlois district by wardens at around 18.00 hours.

Eyewitnesses said the man had been waving a knife and an axe shortly before the shots were fired.
