Dutch biscuit company Bolletje may end up in German hands

Dutch family firm Bolletje, which makes biscuits and crispbakes, is in talks with German company Borggreve about a possible takeover, news agency ANP said on Tuesday.

An earlier takeover attempt by Continental Bakers stumbled following objections from the Dutch competition authority.

The NMa said that takeover would have created a giant with up to 80% of the Dutch market for crispbakes (beschuit). The German takeover will not require regulatory approval, Bolletje told ANP.

Both firms have a workforce of around 800 and turn over some €200m a year. They are also located 30 minutes apart on either side of the Dutch German border near Almelo. Financial details were not disclosed.
