Some 200 workers at Albert Heijn distribution centres held a noisy demonstration in central Amsterdam on Tuesday in support of their campaign for more pay and better job security.

Some of the demonstrators carried banners featuring a photograph of Albert Heijn boss Dick Boer with the text ‘€2.7 million per year’ – a reference to Boer’s pay package, news agency ANP said.

The distribution centre workers, members of the FNV trade union federation, are calling for a pay rise in line with inflation and permanent contracts for some temporary staff. The CNV union has accepted the 1.75% offer made by the company.
