The Dutch have no plans to push the boat out for new king

The Netherlands may celebrate the inauguration of king Willem-Alexander on April 30, but just 8% of the population plan to spend more money than they do on a normal Queen’s Day.

A survey for financial services group ING shows the average spend on April 30 will be just €27. And only 15% expect to spend more than €50 on Oranje-related items or on second-hand goods.

In total, 58% say they will spend the same amount as they always do on Queen’s Day, while 34% will spend less. And nearly three-quarters think it right the inauguration is low key, because of the economic situation.
