Supermarket sales rose just 1.1% last year, the lowest growth since 2005, according to retail market research group Gfk.
In total, supermarkets turned over €3.6bn last year.
‘While other retail sectors see sales fall, supermarkets are benefiting from the fact consumers are not quick to economise on food,’ Gfk director Joop Holla told news agency ANP.
