Dutch Rail is continuing to operate reduced services throughout the country because of the wintry weather, but passenger complaints are mounting, Nos television says.
The continuing problems caused by snow and heavy frosts at night mean services have to be cut, to prevent a single breakdown clogging up the entire system, Dutch railway operator NS says.
In particular, the combination of snow and frost have made the system vulnerable, and loose snow is clogging up the points.
However, passengers are beginning to lose patience about the overcrowded train services, the broadcaster says.
Rail users’ organisation Rover wants the NS to start using longer trains to reduce the congestion.
On a normal day, the NS runs some 5,200 trains but that is down 20% at the moment.
