Immigrants in the Netherlands send at least €1.5bn every year to family members in their country of origin, according to new figures from the Dutch central bank.

Around 25% of that goes to other countries within the EU, the central bank said. Most money, some €160m, goes to the former colony of Suriname, followed by Turkey (€150m) and Morocco (€120m).
People from Romania and Bulgaria send the most cash home – around €1,600 per person.
The central bank bases its calculations on international money transactions through companies like Western Union.
