Randstad slips behind other European regions for growth, R&D

Economic growth in the Netherlands’ Randstad region – the urban belt encompassing the four big cities – has fallen below that in 20 other European metropolitan areas, according to a new report by the TNO research institute.

The Randstad region also compares poorly in terms of investment in innovation and research, the TNO research shows. However, unemployment rates in the Randstad are low compared with similar regions in Europe.
The Randstad economy grew 1.7% between 2009 and 2011, compared with an average of 2.4% in other metropolitan regions.
