Download ban back on the table

Junior justice minister Fred Teeven is to revive plans for a formal ban on the illegal downloading of books, films and music from the internet, now it appears there is majority support from parliament.

Teeven told a parliamentary committee on Thursday he will work out his earlier proposals in a slimmed-down form.
The previous parliament opposed a ban, but now the Labour party appears to support a ban on the ‘consistent and commercial use of material which is protected by copyright’, Nos television reports.
The Netherlands has already introduced a home copying fee of up to €5 on smartphones and dvds as a temporary ruling while details of a ban on home copying were being worked out.
