Household spending fell 2% in August compared with the year-earlier period, according to figures released on Tuesday by the central statistics office CBS.


Spending on food was down 0.4%, while that on items such as furniture, electronic products, clothes and shoes fell 7.2%.
Other items, including fuel, fell 6.1%, said the CBS.
