ABC Television buys Dutch drama series

The American television company ABC has bought the rights to Dutch drama series Vuurzee (Sea of Fire) and is making a pilot episode.

It is the third drama series to be bought by ABC. The rights to Overspel (Betrayal) and Penoza (Red Widow) have already been sold to the American broadcasting giant, the Parool reported at the weekend.
A first season of Red Widow, the story of a gangster’s widow who takes over her husband’s business, is ready for broadcast and will be shown from January.
Betrayal, about the complexities of a young married woman’s affair, will get a pilot episode like Sea of Fire.
In Sea of Fire a seaside town is shocked by the disappearance of the daughter of the Turkish owner of a beach restaurant. It is being compared to David Lynch’s television series Twin Peaks by American trade papers, says the Parool.
All three series feature unexpected plot twists and were popular enough to be given a second series. Penoza II is due on Dutch screens in November and Overspel will be broadcast next year. Vuurzee‘s second series went out in 2009.
