Roger Federer opens Davis Cup tennis event in Amsterdam
World number one tennis player Roger Federer will take on Dutch number two Thiemo de Bakker in Amsterdam’s Westerpark on Friday in the opening match of the Netherlands-Switzerland Davis Cup tie.
Dutch number one Robin Haase will then meet Stanislas Wawrinka who has beaten the Dutchman in five previous meetings.
On Saturday, Wawrinka and Federer team up against Haase and Dutch doubles specialist Jean-Julien Rojer. On Sunday, Haase will play Federer and De Bakker will take on Wawrinka.
The matches are being held outside on a specially set up clay court in the park.
The winning country will compete in the Davis Cup World Group next year.
