More foreign tourists visit the Netherlands

There was slight growth in the number of Belgian and German tourists coming to the Netherlands this summer, as the economic downturn forced people to holiday closer to home, the national tourist board said at the weekend.

Seaside resorts and Brabant were the most popular destinations.
The board expects an overall increase in tourist numbers this year. Based on the first five months of the year, it forecasts 11.7 million foreign tourists will visit the country at some point in 2012, up 4% on 2011.
