Housing crisis: bankruptcies across building sector rise nearly 50%

Bankruptcies are rising across the entire building sector, from construction companies to plastering firms and diy shops, according to online bankruptcy register faillissementsdossier.nl.


In total, 1,330 construction sector firms went bust in the first eight months of this year – up 45% on a year ago – as problems in the housing market have a knock-on effect.
Bankruptcies among small independent specialists such as plumbers and painting firms were up an average 50%. Plasterers were the most severely affected with 129 closing their doors.
In total, 8,205 Dutch companies went bankrupt over the first eight months of the year, an increase of 25% on a year ago.
