Henk Kamp and former Labour leader Bos take over coalition talks
Caretaker social affairs minister Henk Kamp and former PvdA leader and finance minister Wouter Bos are to focus on the next stage in the cabinet formation process following last week’s general election.
Kamp, who has done the initial research into the possible options, published his report on the negotiations so far on Tuesday afternoon. In that report, he says both party leaders approved the appointment of two informateurs or negotiators to take the VVD- PvdA coalition process further.
The two parties emerged as the big winners in last week’s general election.
MPs are due to debate the formation process on Thursday when the new-look parliament meets for the first time.
Earlier on Tuesday, prime minister Mark Rutte hinted that Labour would get the post of finance minister in a new administration. Asked after the budget presentation if caretaker finance minister Jan Kees de Jager could not keep the job, Rutte commented that he is not a member of the Labour party.
