Fewer house sales registered in August

The number of new home ownership registrations fell 16.2% in August, compared with the year-earlier period, according to the land registry service Kadaster.

Last month, 8,384 ownership changes were processed, compared with 10,009 in August 2011, the Financieele Dagblad said. Month-on-month registrations are up 12.5%. In July, the Kadaster registered just 7,451 transactions.
The FD points out the Kadaster figures reflect the state of the housing market in May because it takes three months for a transaction to be included in its register.
However, other figures also show there is little let up in the problems facing the housing market.
The number of new mortgages in August is down 24% on a year ago, the paper said. At the same time, the number of forced sales rose 18% to 170, as more people had trouble meeting their mortgage payments.
